DM Ramban chairs District Road Safety Committee, Regional Transport Authority meet
RAMBAN, APRIL, 15: District Magistrate, Ramban, Mussarat Islam today chaired a meeting of District Road Safety Committee and discussed various road safety measures for reducing accidents, creating awareness about road safety, improvement of roads and safety audit.
The meeting was attended by the Senior Superintendent of Police Traffic, Ramban, Shabir Ahmed Malik, SSP, Ramban, Mohita Sharma, ADC, Harban Sharma, CEO, MC, Vishwjeet, CEO, Dev Anand, CMO, Dr. Fareed Bhat, , ARTO Shafqat Majid Executive Engineers of PWD and PMGSY, officers form National Highway authority of India and BRO besides other committee members.
While reviewing the current status of NH-44, the DC directed NHAI to start blacktopping and filling of potholes on existing highway besides installing signage to keep the commuters aware about the latest status of highway for their convenience.
The DC also directed the NHAI to take all necessary measures to control over speeding especially on Chenani-Nashri tunnel and Navayuga tunnel in Banihal by taking strict action on violators in coordination with Motor Vehicle and Traffic Police department. He also directed them to install CCTV cameras at all vulnerable locations besides ensuring provisions of lighting systems to tackle emergency situations.
He directed the CEO, MC Ramban and EOs of MC Banihal and Batote to take action against parking in no parking zones and roadsides to decongest the road of the towns. He directed the PWD and PMGSY department to improve the condition of their roads besides completing road safety audits of their roads.
Decision was also taken by the committee regarding the constitution of the technical committee to examine the cause of accidents that occurred in the district.
Speaking on the occasion, the SSP highlighted various issues relating to the condition of NH-44, link roads and parking issues besides suggesting various measures important for reducing road accidents and death in the accidents.
SSP traffic asked the Motor Vehicle Department to launch a joint drive with Traffic Police against overloading, over charging, over speeding besides ensuring implementation of Road Safety Measures on National Highway and other line roads of the district.
Meanwhile, the meeting of the Regional Transport Authority was also held under which the Authority reviewed existing numbers of passenger vehicles, availability of parking space, applications for grant of fresh permits for the passenger vehicles and applications for the change of route in permits for passenger vehicles in the district.
Earlier, ARTO Ramban informed about the initiatives taken to curb the menace of over speeding, over charging, wrong parking, drunken driving, under age driving etc on NHW and various link roads.
