DC Ramban launches “SPARSH” Leprosy awareness campaign
RAMBAN, January, 30: Deputy Commissioner, Mussarat Islam today launched ‘SPARSH’, a Leprosy Awareness Campaign besides flagged off a vehicle from District Administrative Complex, Ramban for sensitizing the people of district about treatment of Leprosy and importance of Covid vaccination in 15-17 age group, here today.
Addl. Deputy Commissioner, Harvans Sharma, CMO, Dr, Mohd.Fareed Bhat, CEO, VK Koul, Xen PWD, Vinod Dy. CMO, Dr. Iqbal Bhat, DNO, AYUSH, Dr. Sanjay Chadha, Tehsildar, Rafiq Ahmed and various senior officers attended the programme.
An awareness programme was also organized by the Health Department at DH Ramban.
After inaugurating the campaign, the DC said that campaign would help to eliminate this stigma and prejudice by intensifying awareness about the aspect of leprosy and also identify new cases so as to provide early treatment.
The DC further said that the government has decided to organize a nationwide massive awareness campaign on the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on January 30 aimed to intensify leprosy detection campaign to curb the crippling disease.
While talking to media personnel, the DC informed that the campaign will remain in operation till February, 13th 2022. He said that an awareness vehicle will visit different parts of the district to make masses aware about the leprosy and Covid vaccination especially in the 15 to 17 years age group.
The DC urged the health workers to involve more workers to make the awareness programme successful besides urging the people to cooperate in this leprosy eradication awareness campaign and help such persons in getting the treatment. “The leprosy is fully curable if detected early”, he added.
